Choose one of the short stories that we are reading for class (“Cathedral,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “A Wall of Fire Rising,” “The Birth-Mark,” “The Interpreter of Maladies”) and decide upon a topic; use your topic brainstorming/critical questions process to help you formulate a thesis statement that argues for a specific interpretation of your chosen story. You should have a strong, focused, and debatable thesis statement that appears at the end of the first paragraph of your essay. Highlight or underline your thesis. What follows in the body paragraphs should elaborate upon and support that thesis statement.You must use evidence from the text (story) to support your points. You must also use the GMC Library to assemble outside research from credible sources to support your argument, use and cite that research throughout your paper, and include those sources on a Works Cited list.
