Constructivist learning theories have guided science educators’ thinking about designing science curriculum, instruction, and assessment in the classroom since the second half of the 20th century. Therefore, it is important to understand the fundamental principles of constructivism, especially those of social constructivism, and reflect on ways to use these principles in designing instruction for learning and developing effective and meaningful assessments.
