Mario Toma
Hello all,
I picked a very interesting article for this weeks discussion because the way they were trying to deliver and educate the population. I Choose an article about colon cancer in the united states. According to the article, Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death due to a cancer. It farther stated that black males and females, jews of European descent, and Hispanics have the highest risk to develop colon cancer. However what interested me the most was that Hispanics are on that list due to screening level. The article states that latino men are less likely to get a screening test than non latino men which may result in a diagnosis at an advanced disease stage leading to increased deaths. I enjoyed how this article is trying to raise awareness and tryin to educate that hispanic men about going to get a screen. Its mentioning that colon cancer can be diagnosed at an earlier stage and can potentially save someone who is from a hispanic descend. However, This article has additionally colon risk factor that may derail the readers from the main message of trying to educate the hispanic men about colon cancer. The article mentions other risk factors such as overweight, diets, smoking, or a person who has a history of inflammatory bowel disease. I believe to great extent that the article does a great job in ways of intervening to promote colon cancer screening among latino men. I believe this article is very important to latino men because the article states that estimates indicate that 60% of deaths from colorectal cancer among men and women aged 50 or older could be prevented by early detection. This study was important to effectively try to reach out to those who may be from hispanic descend and try to get them to get a colon screen.
