1. ABRAHAM: Read the Abraham story (Gen. 12-25). This is the introductory story in God’s program of redemption. In this short story, God reveals himself as “El Shaddai”, the covenant-keeping God. This story not only focuses on God faithfully keeping his covenant promises to Abraham, but also on God doing this in spite of Abraham’s continual lack of faithfulness and belief. MLA8 or APA7 format In paragraph 1, introduce the historical and socio-cultural background for this story (Genesis 12-25). Describe who the original audience was who first heard this story. In paragraph 2, describe the literary structure of the story. How does the literary structure introduce the main focus or “big idea” of the story? What is the main focus of this story? In paragraph 3, explain why this is the first story in God’s redemptive program. Talk about why God introduces himself as “El Shaddai” in this story and the significance of that name for his redemptive program. In paragraph 4, describe Abraham’s continual lack of faith and obedience and the significance of this unbelief for the story. How does the author indicate that this is a significant part of the story? In paragraph 5, describe God’s response to Abraham’s continual lack of faith and obedience. Explain why understanding God’s response is such a significant point in understanding his plan of redemption. In your last paragraph, your conclusion, describe what this story would mean for you if you would have been part of the original audience. Finally, describe what it should mean for you as a believer today. Include a works cited section with at least 3 academic references (not including the Bible or Brisben).
