Based on the key argument elements explained in Chapter 7, please identify the key argument elements in this short paragraph: (Hint: There are examples in Chapter 7.)

Identify Key Argument Elements in paragraph below:
<
The federal government should ban smoking. The ban would be limited to public spaces. Smoking causes serious diseases in smokers. Nonsmokers are endangered by secondhand smoke. Citizens are entitled to protection from harmful actions by others. Numbers of deaths attributed to secondhand smoke lawsuits recently won against large tobacco companies, citing the need for reparation for smoking-related health care costs. Examples of bans already imposed in many public places. Smokers have rights too. Smoking laws should be left to the states. Such a ban could not be enforced. The ban applies to public places; smokers can smoke in private. The experience of NYC, which has imposed such a ban, suggests that enforcement would not be a significant problem.

Research shows that a common weakness of source use by student writers is that students oftentimes only use isolated facts and numbers from the source materials as evidence in their writing, rather than carefully weighing the value of the arguments made in the sources. Therefore, they fail to present a conversation from different sources on the topics they write about. To avoid that, I’d like you to carefully consider a source text that you are reading on your topic. Select a source that actually presents an argument on your topic. First list the full citation of the source, and then summarize some key argument elements in that source:
<
<
What is the major claim in that source text?
<
What are the main reasons the source text uses to support the main claim? What are some of the evidence to support the main reasons?
<
Is there any counterargument either explicitly addressed or suggested in the source text?
<
<
*Task 3
